Transition metals: configurations and oxidation states

Write the configuration of a 3d metal and its ions without slips, find an oxidation state in an oxoanion, and predict a redox reaction from standard potentials.

The definition

Transition metals occupy the d block (groups 33 to 1212). The criterion: a partially filled dd subshell in at least one common oxidation state. Zn, Cd and Hg (group 1212) are often excluded: in the +2+2 state their subshell is full, d10d^{10}.
