Stoichiometry: limiting reactant, extent of reaction and yield

From the balanced equation to the mass of product: finding the limiting reactant without being fooled, reading the progress table and applying a yield.

The essentials

1

Stoichiometric coefficients

They give proportions in moles, never in grams. NX2+3HX22NHX3\ce{N2 + 3 H2 -> 2 NH3} reads: 1 mol1\ \text{mol} of NX2\ce{N2} reacts with 3 mol3\ \text{mol} of HX2\ce{H2} to form 2 mol2\ \text{mol} of NHX3\ce{NH3}.
