Combustion

The fire triangle, the difference between complete and incomplete combustion, and why carbon monoxide kills without warning.

The essentials

1

Fuel and oxidiser

A combustion is a chemical change between a fuel (what burns) and an oxidiser (what makes it burn, most often the oxygen OX2\ce{O2} in air). It releases energy: heat, sometimes light.
