The shell model (Bohr, 1913)

The nucleus sits at the centre and the electrons are spread over shells labelled by nn: K (n=1n = 1), L (n=2n = 2), M (n=3n = 3), N (n=4n = 4). Maximum capacities: 22, 88, 1818, 3232 electrons, i.e. 2n22n^2. Inner shells fill first.
